Prayers for Nico

We wanted to give you an update as little Nico will be having his first surgery tomorrow morning. This surgery is for the doctors to get a layout of his little heart to prepare for the Fontan surgery later this month. They will be going through his groin and navigating to the heart with a scope. During this surgery, they will also determine if there are certain collateral vessels that have developed that need to be coiled. As Nico's heart is only functioning at half the capacity of a normal heart, his body tries to compensate by developing these collateral vessels to try to get more oxygen. However, these vessels are not healthy in the end for Nico to have so they will be coiled if the doctors find them during surgery. If coiling is required, Nico will stay in the hospital tomorrow night.

Nico will be under general anestesia, which is always nerve wracking for anyone, but especially a 2 year old so all prayers are needed in full force today and tomorrow.

Those of you in the Chicagoland area probably already know, but the weathermen are predicting our area is going to get hit with a big winter storm starting tonight into tomorrow that is expected to dump 6 - 9 inches on us. With the surgery scheduled for 6:30 am tomorrow morning at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the Schwartz's are going to stay at the Ronald McDonald house tonight to ensure there are no issues getting to the hospital.

We will provide you an update tomorrow when Nico is out of surgery as we know everyone will be thinking of him. We also wanted to thank everyone so far that has offered their help with meals, rides, dog walks, etc. this week to help the Schwartz's so they can focus on Nico. They are so grateful to everyone. We all hope this surgery is helpful and not too tolling on little Nico's body so he can stay healthy and prepare for the big one ahead.

Keep you posted and keep those prayers coming.....
Christy and Colleen
